Mighty Ducks 4, Louisville 4

BY JOHN P. WISE
Enquirer contributor

The season series may be lopsided, but Friday's AHL game between Cincinnati and Louisville wasn't.

Jay Legault tied the game with a pair of goals in the final six minutes for the Mighty Ducks, and neither team scored in the physical five-minute overtime. Each team added a point in the Mid-Atlantic Division race with a 4-4 tie.

“When Jay uses his size and strength like that, you'll see those kind of results,” Ducks coach Moe Mantha said.

Louisville remains unbeaten in nine games between the teams this season. The Panthers' record of 4-0-3-2 against the Ducks includes five overtime games this year.

“(Louisville has) had our number all year, but they've almost always been close games.” Legault said. “I guess we're glad to get a point.”

The Ducks fell behind 4-2 midway through the final period. Dwayne Hay scored Louisville's third power-play goal of the night to give the visitors the two-goal cushion.

But the Ducks almost matched the comeback effort they made in their last outing, when three late goals turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 Cincinnati defeat of Albany last Saturday.

Legault's scores came at 14:31 and 19:10. The first was a nifty rebound shot that he knocked over Louisville goalie Richard Shulmistra. His second beat Shulmistra for Cincinnati's first power-play goal.

Wren scored the first goal for the Ducks, who never led in the game. Cincinnati also got a goal from Marc Chouinard.

Louisville's goals came from Chris Wells, Lance Ward and Craig Reichert, who captained the Ducks in their first two seasons.

The Ducks have five more chances to get their first win against Louisville this season, beginning Monday at Freedom Hall.
