Pair rescued from truck roof in river

WHITEWATER TWP. — A couple four-wheeling along the Great Miami River Saturday night had to be rescued after their truck became stranded in the river.

Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies charged the two with inducing panic and disorderly conduct after they were plucked from the river.

Donald R. Cole, 31, of Hooven, and Rebecca A. Basham, 23, of West Harrison, were given citations and released. They were not injured in the incident.

Deputies said they were called to the river near the 5100 block of Ohio 128 about 6 p.m. They found Mr. Cole and Ms. Basham stranded on the truck's roof in the river.

Fire departments from Whitewater and Miami townships used a boat to rescue the couple. Mr. Cole, the driver, faces additional charges of reckless operation of a vehicle and driving while under suspension.
