Walton girls clinch No. 1 seed

        Walton-Verona beat Owen County 65-48 in a girls basketball game at Walton Wednesday night, clinching the No.1 seed in the 32nd district tournament.

        Jessica Schmidt and Caitlyn Ryan combined for 19 points in the fourth quarter, during which the Bearcats outscored the Rebels 20-8 to take the lead.

        The loss dropped Owen County to the No.2 seed in the tournament, which begins in two weeks. The Bearcats play the winner of the Williamstown-Grant County game while Owen County meets Scott County.

        Besides scoring 32 points, Schmidt also grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked four shots. Ryan scored 22 points, with four assists and six rebounds.

        Leah Patterson scored 27 points to lead Owen County.

        • Bellevue 70, Deming 20 — Stephanie Myers had 14 points and 16 rebounds for Bellevue. Jessica Daniels added 10 points, six steals and five assists.
