Boone County to open second office for clerks
BY KRISTINA GOETZ

FLORENCE Boone County residents soon won't have to go all the way to Burlington to renew their driver's licenses and vehicle plates.
Florence city officials said that by June or July, a lower-level, unfinished room in the government center on Ewing Boulevard will be home to a second office for county and circuit clerks.
I think a lot of people will choose to come to Florence, said Florence Mayor Diane Ewing Whalen.
Boone County Fiscal Court is expected to approve at its meeting today a lease for the 3,000-square-foot space for at least a five-year term.
All other functions of the two clerks will still be handled at the Burlington ad ministration building.
They'll be able to do anything having to do with a motor vehicle, Boone County Clerk Marilyn Rouse said.
You'll still have to come here (Burlington) for your voter registration, you'll still have to come for your marriage licenses and your deeds.
But the paperwork that comes with the transfer of a car, licensing a new one or renewing registration will be able to be handled in Florence as well as Burlington.
Boone Circuit Clerk Pat Gutzeit said driver testing will remain in Burlington as well as all court records.
The records need to be where the court is, she said. You can't separate them.
