OXFORD They'll be jumping at Miami's Millett Hall tonight, and the event has nothing to do with basketball.
As part of Miami University's Performing Arts Series, the Newport Jazz Festival All-Star Swing Band joins the Jivin' Lindy Hoppers dance troupe in a concert that will encourage audience members to hit the floor. Dance space will be available.
The band is led by Warren Vache, who has performed at major jazz festivals throughout the world and has worked with jazz luminaries such as Rosemary Clooney, Benny Goodman, Woody Herman and Bobby Short.
The Jivin' Lindy Hoppers, founded in 1984, are based in London.
Before the concert, Miami University alumnus Dan Weltner, a professional dancer and dance instructor, will give free lessons for those who want to perfect their moves.
The concert begins at 8 p.m. Mr. Weltner's class begins at 7 p.m. in Millett Hall.
Tickets are $18 for general admission, $15 for senior citizens, and $9 for Miami students and anyone 18 or younger. Tickets are available during the day at the Shriver Center box office, 529-3200, or can be bought at the door.
