Hartford 5, Mighty Ducks 2

The Cincinnati Enquirer

HARTFORD, Conn. — Derek Armstrong scored two goals and added an assist to help the Hartford Wolfpack extend their winning streak to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Wednesday night at the Hartford Civic Center.

Brad Smyth — the 1995-96 AHL MVP with the Carolina Monarchs — contributed a goal and an assist for the Wolfpack, who won their seventh in a row at home.

Hartford, 11-1-1-0 in its past 13 games, outshot Cincinnati 33-29 in recording its league-high 34th victory of the season.

Bob Wren and Frank Banham scored for the Mighty Ducks, who lost their second straight game after winning five in a row. Jesse Wallin, the Detroit Red Wings' first-round selection in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, assisted on both Cincinnati goals and now has points in five of his last seven games.

Hartford goalie Milan Hnilicka, who blanked the Mighty Ducks 1-0 Jan.8 at the Cincinnati Gardens, stopped 27 of 29 shots to record his 15th victory of the season against nine losses.
