MIAMI NOTEBOOK
Pace helps Stewart equal career high
OXFORD Miami senior guard Jason Stewart equaled a career high with 30 points, including seven 3-point shots, in MU's 87-78 loss to Marshall Wednesday night. He previously had scored 30 at Furman, where he played before transferring to Miami.
But he didn't credit his hot shooting or his open looks as the reason for the game-high total. Instead, he pointed to the fast pace set by Marshall.
It was definitely the tempo of the game, Stewart said. When you play at that pace, you're going to score some points.
Highs and lows
Miami's 38 first-half points were a season high, but so were the 45 points MU gave up to Marshall. Entering the game, the RedHawks' defense was tops in the Mid-American Conference in terms of fewest points allowed.
The 87 points the Thundering Herd scored were the most given up by Miami since a 92-77 loss to Eastern Michigan in the 1998 MAC tournament.
Herd go long
Marshall was a deadly 10-of-18 from 3-point range. Reserve forward Joda Burgess led the squad with 4-of-7 shooting.
The Thundering Herd rank ninth nationally in 3-point percentage and 14th in 3-pointers made.
Big on the boards
The RedHawks were coming off their worst rebounding performance of the season after their loss Monday at Ohio. They were outrebounded by 15 at OU.
Led by Mike Ensminger's13 boards, the RedHawks outrebounded the Herd 39-27.
