TRENTON Former Edgewood schools Treasurer C.G. Uebel will be allowed to resign and will receive $34,444 as part of a settlement reached with the school board.
This week's approval of the agreement by the Edgewood Board of Education ends a three-month disputefollowing her Nov. 15 dismissal.
I'm pleased that we've settled this and are able to move on, board President John Snyder said. Instead of lingering on this, we need to move on to bigger and better things. We've got a $20 million (construction) project we're ready to fire up.
Under the agreement, the board will rescind its motion to terminate Ms. Uebel's contract after she submits a written letter of resignation dated to her dismissal. All negative material will be removed from her personnel file.
Both sides agreed not to discuss the settlement or comment negatively. The agreement also bars either side from taking any further action against the other.
Nearly two months after dismissing Ms. Uebel, the board approved a resolution that reiterated the November action and outlined 12 reasons why she was fired, and eight other problems discovered since then.
All of the reasons related to job performance. They included such items as delinquent payment of bills, including the water bill from the city of Trenton; failing to provide five-year financial projections; giving board members incomplete financial spreadsheets and disorganized board packets; poor communication with the board; and untimely sale of bonds.
Neither Ms. Uebel nor her attorney could be reached for comment. Previously, Ms. Uebel's attorney, C.J. Schmidt, has said his client did not have the opportunity to argue her case before being dismissed, although she had been asked to resign. He said Ms. Uebel had met requirements of a set of goals and responsibilities she had been given several months before her dismissal.
Ms. Uebel, who earned $45,000 a year, became Edgewood's treasurer in May 1998. Before working in Edgewood, she was treasurer of the Clermont Northeastern and Western Brown school districts.
Last month, Ryan Slone was hired to replace Ms. Uebel.
