Taft OKs flood help for Adams County

        COLUMBUS — Gov. Bob Taft has declared a state of emergency in Adams County because of debris that high water left behind.

        Adams became the second Ohio county under an emergency because of last weekend's rain when Mr. Taft issued the order Friday afternoon, spokeswoman Eileen Corson said. Mr. Taft declared adjacent Scioto County in a state of emergency Tuesday after flooding in the West Portsmouth area.

        The declaration authorizes state agencies to do whatever is necessary to help local officials protect citizens. Ms. Corson said Adams county officials needed help from the Ohio Department of Transportation clearing roads in the county. Little property damage was reported from the flood.
