Cyclones 4, Cleveland 1
The Cincinnati Enquirer
CLEVELAND The Cincinnati Cyclones scored four goals in the first period and then hung on to defeat the Cleveland Lumberjacks 4-1 Friday night at Gund Arena.
The Cyclones got goals from Todd Hawkins (10th), Matt Demarski (first), Ian MacNeil (13th) and Shane Willis (28th) to blow the game open 4-0 in the first period.
Demarski's goal proved to be the game winner, coming on the power play. It was the second-year pro's first IHL game.
Willis, who returned from a two-game stint with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, arrived in Cleveland earlier in the day and moved into second place on the IHL's goal scoring chart. The triumph was Cincinnati's third straight away from Firstar Center and the Cyclones have won six of their last nine games overall.
Jean-Marc Pelletier picked up the win his sixth in 10 decisions since joining the club, knocking away 24 shots and not surrendering a goal until the third period.
The Cyclones and Admirals meet at 7:30 p.m. today at Firstar Center. The first 2,500 children aged 12 and under will receive a Gilbert Dionne replica t-shirt jersey.
