February going out like a lamb
Saturday's 73 ties 56-year-old record
BY MARIE McCAIN
The Cincinnati Enquirer
It was a day made for long walks, picnic lunches, playing catch or any outdoor endeavor.
Saturday's high of 73 degrees tied the previous high for February, set 56 years ago.
I love this, said Rochelle Johnson of Forest Park as she propped open her balcony door. I definitely hope it stays like this. '
It was the first winter she'd been able to sit with her windows and doors open, she said.
Saturday's breezy warmth drew many people to parks: joggers, sun-seekers and kids giving their baseball gloves an early tune-up.
It also drew 115 people to Hooters' Newport restaurant, where they plunged into an above-ground pool to raise money for Kentucky Special Olympics.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the temperature at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport reached 73, matching the record of 1944. Two hours earlier, at Lunken Airport, a high of 75.9 degrees was recorded. (The official record is based on measurements at the international airport.)
Other temperatures at about the same time ranged from 71 to 74 around the Tristate.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Wilmington predicted continued mild temperatures through the week. Rain also is expected.
Today will be mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers, mainly in the morning. The high is expected to hit the mid-50s, then dip into the 30s overnight.
On Monday, skies should clear, with a high in the lower 50s. The normal high temperature for this time of year is 44.
