Griffins drub tired Cyclones
The Cincinnati Enquirer
GRAND RAPIDS, Mic. A four-goal third period secured the Grand Rapids Griffins a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones Sunday afternoon at Van Andel Arena.
A three-games-in-three-nights schedule and playing with a depleted roster caught up with the Cyclones. Grand Rapids got goals 17 seconds apart from Viacheslav Butsayev and Derek King early in the third period to open up a 4-1 lead.
Cincinnati started with 15 players, as the Cyclones were without the services of four players. A fifth player, Brian Felsner, dressed but was limited to only a few shifts with an injury.
The Cyclones were playing their 11th game in 17 days, turning in a 7-4-0 mark in these games and moving into fourth place in the IHL's Eastern Conference.
Cyclones right wing Shane Willis scored his 29th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 after two periods.
