EATON, Ohio Thirty-two people, including one juvenile, are facing felony charges after Preble County sheriff's deputies broke up a dogfight Saturday in rural Eldorado, about 12 miles northwest of Eaton.
Most of those arrested were from Cincinnati, said Preble County Sheriff Tom Hayes. About 20 deputies, acting on a telephoned tip, raided a barn in Eldorado about 9 p.m. Saturday.
We'd received some information from various sources of a dogfight that was happening, he said. There was evidence that they were having dog fights. We found some pit bulls; you could tell they had been fighting.
Deputies found 11 dogs, several handguns, a small amount of marijuana and $28,000 in cash. The county dog warden took the animals.
I know one of the animals had to be put to sleep because of the injuries, Sheriff Hayes said. This is something that just kind of cropped up.
About a dozen individuals were arrested at the barn, and the rest were picked up Saturday night and Sunday morning, the sheriff said.
The majority of those arrested had Cincinnati-area addresses, but there were also people from Butler County and Indiana, and one man was from Norwalk, Ohio.
Among those arrested was a 17-year-old boy.
They all face felony charges of dogfighting, and all but two people who both had outstanding warrants were released on their own recognizance.
Everyone will be arraigned in Eaton Municipal Court, but no date has been set.
