Former teacher, coach pleads guilty

BY STEVE KEMME
The Cincinnati Enquirer

HAMILTON — The former varsity girls basketball coach at Lemon-Monroe High School pleaded guilty Monday to a criminal charge of falsification over a bogus state teaching certificate.

Greg D. Brown, who also taught social studies at Madison Junior School, could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Judge Patricia Oney of Butler County Common Pleas Court will sentence him April 24.

Madison schools officials discovered through a routine check that Mr. Brown's state certificate was a fake.

After being confronted with the allegation, Mr. Brown resigned from his teaching position Feb. 4.

He resigned from his coaching job Feb. 9, two days after his team won a Mid-Miami League division title. After his resignation, his team lost its last regular-season game and its first tournament game.

Mr. Brown, 32, of Trenton, is an Edgewood High School graduate and a Miami University graduate with a degree in teaching. But he apparently failed one section of the National Teachers Exam, a test required for certification, Madison officials said.
