Missing 3 days, man with Alzheimer's found dead on Mount Auburn property

The body of a missing 69-year-old Walnut Hills man was found Monday in a vacant lot in Mount Auburn.

Relatives had been searching for Lonnie Heard since he walked away from the VA Medical Center on Friday afternoon. They identified his body at the scene.

Police said there were no signs of trauma or foul play and that it appeared Mr. Heard died of natural causes. The body was taken to the Hamilton County coroner's office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Mr. Heard's son, James Cotting- ham, 34, of Winton Place, said his father was at the hospital for an appointment when he walked away. He thinks that his father, who suffered from Alzheimer's, was in the Mount Auburn area because he had lived there about 20 years ago.

Relatives searching the area and a passerby who was walking his dog discovered the body about 6:10 p.m. in a vacant lot at Sycamore and Dorsey streets.
