Clermont Co. issues

BY TOM O'NEILL
The Cincinnati Enquirer

BATAVIA — Fire protection in Milford and ambulance service in New Richmond head the list of issues on the ballot in Clermont County.

Others include a Sunday alcohol-sale request in Batavia Township and a replacement levy in Owensville.

Milford's levy is a five-year, 5.3-mill request that would cost the owner of a 100,000 home $166.95 per year.

It would raise about $100,000 a year, which the department would use to hire up to four part-time firefighters, Fire Chief John Cooper said.

Milford Fire and EMS has 10 full-time and 20 part-time employees, and 10 volunteers. Ten years ago, there were just three full-time firefighters. The rest were volunteers, and Chief Cooper said the the levy request is prompted by the increasing difficulty in recruiting volunteers.

“It's the times,” he said. “Because of the amount of time the job takes, it's harder to get volunteers. So this is to try to keep pace.”

        Also on the ballot:

An additional 1.5-mill levy in New Richmond for ambulance and/or emergency medical service that will cost the owner of a $100,000 home $47.25 per year. The levy is continuing.

A five-year replacement levy in Owensville, also for 1.5 mills, for expenses in the village. It would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $47.25 per year.

Voters in Batavia Township “C” are asked to approve alcohol sales on Sunday.
