McNicholas wins on late layup
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Paul Sheehy made a layup off a blocked shot with 12 seconds remaining to give No.3 seed McNicholas a 53-51 victory over Roger Bacon Tuesday in a Division II sectional semifinal game at Anderson High School.
With the score tied 51-51, Roger Bacon was holding the ball for a last-second shot. Adam Schneider stole it on the perimeter for McNicholas (ranked third in the Enquirer's coaches poll) and took it the length of the floor but had his layup blocked by Bacon's Mike Merridy.
Sheehy recovered the ball and layed it up for the win.
A last-second shot by Roger Bacon's Josh Hausfeld bounced off the rim.
We did an excellent job on defense on the last sequence, McNicholas coach Jerry Doerger said. We forced them into a shot they didn't want to take.
Hausfeld finished with a game-high 23 points.
McNicholas will face Woodward Saturday at noon in the championship game.
We feel we match up better against Woodward than we did against Loveland, Doerger said. It should be an up-and-down, fast-paced game.
