N.Ky. gets on-demand bus service

BY CINDY SCHROEDER
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FORT WRIGHT — An on-demand bus service, Day Tripper, will begin Monday in Northern Kentucky.

Offered by the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky, Day Tripper's door-to-door service is available to anyone traveling within Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in areas not served by fixed-route bus service.

TANK's Day Tripper is designed to help those who are not on or near a bus line. Depending on users' pickup and destination location, TANK staff will determine how to best meet their needs on an individual basis.

Gina Douthat, a TANK spokeswoman, said Day Tripper started in response to public demand. It will be funded with money budgeted for an experimental service.

“We had gotten a lot of feedback saying there was a need for midday bus service in areas like Silver Grove and Walton, where we don't have it now,” Ms. Douthat said.

A passenger may be taken to the nearest bus stop for the fixed route that will get them where they want to go. If there is no bus service available near their destination, they may be taken directly to their destination.

Day Tripper will operate 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is the same as regular TANK fare, 75 cents a trip.

To schedule a ride, potential users should call the Day Tripper number at 578-6949 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Rides can be scheduled from one hour in advance up to one full day in advance. Monday service can be scheduled on the prior Friday.
