Retiree brought in to help run MRDD

BY CINDI ANDREWS
The Cincinnati Enquirer

LEBANON — The temporary leader of Warren County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities named a lieutenant Thursday to run the troubled agency day-to-day for the next four months.

Interim Superintendent John Lazares hired Paul Davis, retired assistant superintendent of Hamilton County MRDD, as a consultant, county commissioners said Thursday. Mr. Lazares, who also is superintendent of the Warren County Educational Service Center, will oversee the agency, but not full time.

The two plan to work the next four months while the agency tries to recover from questions about its management under former Superintendent Charlotte Marinacci, who resigned this week.

In the wake of a published report that Commissioner Mike Kilburn intended to seek MRDD board members' resignations, Commissioners Pat South and Larry Crisenbery on Thursday said they opposed doing that — for now.

“I think it's premature,” Mrs. South said.

The commissioners have given MRDD board members a to-do list with a deadline of March 16, when the two groups have scheduled a joint meeting. Mr. Kilburn could not be reached for comment.
