Liberty Twp. police arrest suspect in slayings

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — Highway patrol officers captured a suspect in two Los Angeles-area slayings Friday after a traffic stop on Interstate 75 near Ohio 63.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers pulled Javance M. Wilson, 25, of Los Angeles, at gunpoint from a semi-truck after stopping it on northbound I-75 at the rest area just south of Monroe.

“We were given some information from San Bernardino,” said Ohio Patrol Sgt. James Russell. “They thought the vehicle might be in this area.”

Troopers had been looking for the truck for about 30 minutes Friday afternoon when they spotted it on I-75 near I-275 around 3 p.m., Sgt. Russell said. The truck driver stopped after Sgt. Russell turned on his emergency lights near the rest area.

Mr. Wilson, who surrendered peacefully, was taken to the patrol post on Ohio 4. Two people with him were also taken in for questioning, Sgt. Russell said. Mr. Wilson was a passenger in the truck.

Nearly a dozen troopers and a helicopter surrounded the orange truck in the early-afternoon rush. There were no injuries.

“It happened at shift change; we had a lot of people there,” Sgt. Russell said. “San Bernardino confirmed the person we have in custody was their suspect, and they want him.”

Arrangements are being made to extradite Mr. Wilson to California.
