Colerain victory vanishes
Last 26 seconds decide game

WILMINGTON, Ohio Coach Chris Trentman and the Colerain girls stood near the Cardinal bench staring in disbelief.
No one wanted to believe what had just happened to a Cardinal team that appeared on the way to a berth in the re gional semifinals.
In one of the wildest Division I girls basketball championship games in years, Clayton Northmonth scored four points in the final 26 seconds to beat Colerain 64-62 at Wilmington College.
The victory advances the Thunderbolts into the Division I regional semifinals on Tuesday (6:15 p.m.) against undefeated and No.1-ranked Mason.
Trailing 62-60, Northmont took the lead on a 3-point play by Amy Kincer with 26 seconds remaining. Shannon Donathon's free throw with 15 seconds left was Northmont's final point.
We practiced all week going for the final shot and never converted once, Northmonth coach Chuck Harlow said. I told the girls that was alright because all we wanted was that chance.
Kincer took a pass on the run and drove toward the basket. She twisted her body as she was fouled as the ball banked in. She then converted the free throw. The Thunderbolts led 43-31 lead midway through the third quarter. Colerain went on a 11-0 run to pull within one.
