Boothe lifts Highlands to title

        Tara Boothe converted a three-point play with 1:50 to play to give Highlands a 52-49 lead it wouldn't relinquish before going on to beat Newport 57-53 in the 36th District finals at Newport.

        Newport led most of the game, building a six-point lead going into the fourth quarter, before the Bluebirds took the lead for the first time with 3:30 to play on two 3-pointers by Christian Stefanopolous and Stephanie Ripberger.

        Nicole Wagner paced Newport with 16 points. Both teams advance to the Ninth Region tournament.

        HIGHLANDS (57) — Imhoff 3 0 7, Winkler 1 0 2, Ripberger 6 0 13, Stefanopolous 2 3 8, Boothe 7 8 22, Dickerson 2 0 5. Totals: 21 11 57.

        • Boone County 50, Simon Kenton 27, at 33rd District at Boone County — Ciara Henderson scored seven of her 11 points in a 20-5 third quarter to lead the Rebels.

        Shannon Matheny and Nikki Molleson each added 10 rebounds and 10 points for Boone County. Henderson was named tournament MVP.
