NKU women win conference tournament

The Cincinnati Enquirer

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Junior guard Michele Tuchfarber scored 21 points Saturday as Northern Kentucky University won the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship with a 77-57 victory against the University of Indianapolis.

Tuchfarber, a graduate of Mount Notre Dame High School, made three 3-point shots as NKU (27-2) won its 19th consecutive game. The Norse, ranked No. 2 nationally in the Division II poll, won the GLVC tournament title for the second consecutive season.

Sophomore forward Michelle Cottrell, a graduate of Boone County High School, scored 13 points and earned All-Tournament honors.

The Norse held Indianapolis (17-12) to 37 percent shooting from the field and won the rebounding battle by 36-28.

NKU is expected to be the No.1 seed in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region, and the Norse should be the host for the NCAA Tournament March 9-11 in Regents Hall.

Pairings for the NCAA Division II Tournament will be announced today at 4 p.m. Last season, NKU won the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Tournament in Regents Hall and advanced to the Elite Eight.
