Ballot mix of U.S., local seats


DeWine faces two challengers

        Highlights of the partisan ballot in Ohio:

        • U.S. Senate: Democrats will get to choose among candidates running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Mike DeWine, a Republican.

        The choices are: Richard Cordray, former state solicitor; Ted Celeste, a real estate executive and brother of the former governor; the Rev. Marvin McMickle, a Baptist minister from Shaker Heights.

        Republican voters will choose among Mr. DeWine, Frank Cremeans, a former congressman from Gallipolis, and Ronald Dickson, a gun show promoter from Oxford.

        • Ohio Supreme Court, Democrat: Cincinnati Municipal Court Judge Timothy Black faces James Brogan, a state appeals court judge from Dayton. The winner will challenge incumbent Justice Deborah Cook, who is unopposed in the Republican primary.

        Hamilton County

        • County commissioner, Democrat: The candidates are consultant Marilyn Hyland and Cincinnati City Councilman Todd Portune. The winner will take on incumbent Commissioner Bob Bedinghaus, who is unopposed in the Republican primary.

        • County commissioner, Republican: Incumbent John Dowlin has a challenge from Roy McGrath of Clifton.

        • State representative, 32nd District, Republican: Princeton school board member Tawana Keels Simons is running against Jim Raussen, a claims representative.

        • State representative, 34th District, Republican: Green Township trustee Bill Seitz is running against Randy Shank, a Harrison accountant.

        • State representative, 36th District, Republican: Former Madeira mayor Michelle Glass Schneider is running against Charles Tassell, former aide to several Cincinnati councilmembers.

        • State representative, 37th District, Republican: Steve Adams, on the staff of State Treasurer Joe Deters, is running against Tom Brinkman Jr., a printer and founder of a local anti-tax group.

        • State representative, 31st District, Democrat: Incumbent Catherine Barrett of College Hill is challenged by Theo Barnes, a business consultant from Mount Auburn.

        • State representative, 32nd District, Democrat: Wayne Coates, the former mayor of Forest Park, is opposing Jean Kumler, a construction electrician.

        Butler County

        • U.S. House of Representatives, 8th District, Democrat: John G. Parks, an English professor at Miami University, is running against John Griffin, a retired farmer from Miamisburg. Rep. John Boehner, R-West Chester, is unopposed.

        ›State representative, 60th District, Republican: The three candidates are: Sally Southard, Oxford City Council member; Shawn Webster, member of the county educational service center governing board; David Wesler, clerk of Jefferson Township.

        Warren County

        • U.S. House of Representatives, 6th District, Republican: Mike Azinger, an insurance agent from Marietta, is up against Jimmy Stewart, Athens city auditor. The incumbent, Ted Strickland, D-Lucasville, is unopposed.

        • State representative, 2nd District, Republican: The three candidates are Betty Davis, former Mason mayor; Ed Wade, Clearcreek Township trustee; and Tom Raga, Deerfield Township trustee.

        Clermont County

        • State representative, 72nd District, Republican: The three candidates are Tom Niehaus, former newspaper publisher; Melvin Dean, president of Bethel Board of Public Affairs; and Scott Boone, a teacher.

        • County commissioner, Republican: Incumbent Richard Martin is running against Mary Walker, Union Township trustee.
