8,000 books collected at Cardinal Pacelli

Students at Cardinal Pacelli School in Mount Lookout has collected nearly 8,000 new and gently used children's books for Children's Hospital Half-Pint Library.

The goal had been 2,000 books. The program began during Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 30-Feb. 5) by the 451 kindergarten through eighth-grade students at the school, 927 Ellison Ave. Faculty, parents and parishioners at Our Lord Christ the King Church also helped in the weeklong effort. Cardinal Pacelli is the parish school for Christ the King.

Fifth-graders counted the donations and because they donated the most books, as a class, they delivered them to Half-Price Books in Kenwood.

From there the books will be distributed to Children's Hospital Medical Center in Avondale, the hospital's Hopple Street Clinic, and facilities in Anderson, Eastgate, Fairfield, Harrison, and Outpatient North.
