208-room Hilton Garden Inn to be built near Levee project
BY TERRY FLYNN
The Cincinnati Enquirer
NEWPORT A $20 million, 208-room Hilton Garden Inn hotel will be built on the block immediately east of the L&N Bridge and the Newport on the Levee project, it was announced Friday.
Brandy Wein Hospitality of Mason, the company that manages the nearby Hannaford Suites, and Steiner Hospitality, a subsidiary of Steiner and Associates of Columbus, the developer of Newport on the Levee, are building the hotel in a joint venture.
The hotel will be bordered by the bridge, Second Street, Washington Street and the floodwall. Construction is expected to begin this spring with an anticipated opening in 2001.
The first Hilton Garden Inn, to be managed by Brandy Wein, is nearing completion at I-275 and Wards Corner Road in Clermont County and is scheduled to open in June.
Hilton is really excited about this (Newport) project, Brandy Wein President Tom Wein said Friday. This is not the typical Hilton Garden Inn property. It will be 11 stories, with additional meeting space and more rooms than the normal Garden Inn. Hilton has been looking aggressively at Northern Kentucky for a long time.
The Newport hotel will be within walking distance of the entertainment venues of Newport on the Levee, including the already-open Oceanic Adventures Newport Aquarium, a 3-D IMAX theater and a multiscreen cinema. The project, expected to open in 2001, also includes a 2,000-car parking garage and a variety of restaurants and shops.
