Fans to sip Sunrise at Spiral Stakes

BY JANE PRENDERGAST
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FLORENCE — When Turfway Park renamed its big spring race this year, it also needed the one thing a horse race in Kentucky can't be without — an official race drink.

So when the Spiral Stakes goes off March 25, fans will be sipping on Spiral Sunrises. They look like a Tequila Sunrise, testers say, but taste like Long Island Iced Tea.

        The recipe:

Mix a quarter ounce each of Kamchatka vodka, Gilbey's gin, Ron Rico white rum, Dekuyper triple sec and tequila. Add seven ounces of cranberry juice, two ounces of orange juice. Top with a slice of lime.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Haas promises they taste better than last year's popular Raspberry Recliner, named for the race's previous sponsor, a Texas furniture company.

Last year, the race was the Gallery Furniture.com Stakes, after years as the Jim Beam Stakes. The race began as the Spiral Stakes.
