MIDDLETOWN Two female students at Garfield Alternative School face criminal charges and could be expelled after one girl brought a knife and the other a razor blade to school.
Middletown Police Lt. Don Owens said school officials received a tip that a girl had a knife at school Thursday. Assistant Principal Jim Reis and school resource officer Abby Marcum brought the 15-year-old girl to the school office and began questioning her.
When the girl learned officials were looking for a knife, she began screaming and shouting and tried to leave the room. Officer Marcum called for backup from Middletown Police, who re strained the girl. A fold-up knife was found.
School officials and officer Marcum found a razor blade in the back pocket of the second suspect, a 17-year-old girl. She offered no resistance. No one was injured.
Both students have been disciplined and recommended for expulsion, said Norris Brown, director of pupil personnel for Middletown/Monroe Schools.
There's no indication there were any other problems, Mr. Brown said.
Both girls were charged Friday with illegal conveyance of a deadly ordnance, and will remain in the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center until a March 20 hearing, said Rob Clevenger, director of Butler County Juvenile Court.
