Chesley to host Gore at fund-raiser

BY JANE PRENDERGAST
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Vice President Al Gore returns to Greater Cincinnati next week for lunch at the home of big-time political fund-raiser Stan Chesley.

Hot offclinching the Democratic nomination for president, Mr. Gore has turned his focus to the No vember election. To raise money, he will stop March 23 at Mr. Chesley's house in Amberley Village.

Details of Mr. Gore's visit were sketchy Wednesday, but local Democratic leaders hope the candidate will make other, more public stops. Winning Ohio is considered crucial to taking the presidency.

“It's helpful for him to be seen with people other than just donors to his campaign, as important as those donors are,” said Tim Burke, co-chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party. “I think it will be good for the vice president politically to be seen in more of an open, community setting.”

Mr. Gore last visited the Queen City in April 1999, when he checked out tornado damage in Montgomery and Blue Ash and talked about long-term care at a community forum in Roselawn.

Mr. Chesley, a lawyer, is well-known for holding receptions at his home. He has raised millions for the Democratic Party and is a friend of President Clinton and first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.
