Former Red convicted of failing to pay support
Former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Kal Daniels was convicted Wednesday of failing to pay child support to the mother of his 8-year-old son.
Mr. Daniels, now retired from baseball and living in Georgia, pleaded no contest to the charge in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court. Judge Fred Cartolano found him guilty and ordered him to return for sentencing April 12.
Mr. Daniels, 36, made regular support payments until in 1997. Prosecutors say he owed $57,000 until he wrote a check last month for $40,000.
His attorney has said Mr. Daniels intends to pay the remainder before his sentencing.
