Princeton's Daniels named first team All-State

Moeller's Sylvester picked for third team

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Erik Daniels, Princeton's 6-foot-7 forward/center who averaged 19.9 points and nine rebounds a game, was named to the Associated Press All-State first team for Division I.

Moeller junior Matt Sylvester, a 6-7 junior forward, was named third team All-State. He averaged 21.5 points and seven rebounds for the Crusaders.

A two-year starter for Princeton, Daniels has passed both the ACT and SAT but hasn't committed to a college yet. He is considering offers from Temple, Kentucky, Clemson, Xavier, Dayton and Miami.

“Erik put our program over the hump,” Princeton coach Paul Andrews said. “He's also done as well in the classroom as on the court and is an outstanding student.”

Special Mention honors were awarded to Winton Woods sophomore guard Robert Hite. Mal colm Andrews and Danny Horace from Western Hills and St. Xavier's Andy Larkin earned honorable mention.

Medina's Tony Stockman, a 6-2 senior, and Cleveland South's Chet “The Jet” Mason, a 6-3 senior, were selected as the players of the year.

Stockman averaged 25.4 points, 6.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 3 steals a game while shooting 51 percent on 2-pointers, 40 percent on 3-pointers and 84.3 percent at the line. The Clemson signee had a triple-double and scored 30 or more points in nine regular-season games.

Mason averaged a triple-double with marks of 25 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists per game while leading South to its first AP state ranking and its first regional tournament appearance ever. With a 3.6 grade-point average, Mason has signed to play next year at Miami.

The Division II and III All-State teams will be announced today followed by Division IV on Wednesday.
