Ducks broadcaster resigns

John Walton, the radio voice of the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, announced his resignation Thursday.
Walton's finale will be tonight's Ducks game at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pa. He said one of his two children will be starting school, and he wants to be in Cincinnati more often.
For personal and professional reasons, I feel this is the right decision for me at this time, Walton said Thursday.
Walton won't be without work for long. He will begin his fifth season as public address announcer at Reds home games April3.
Ducks President Pete Robinson said he's disappointed to lose Walton, who began calling Ducks games when the team began playing in Cincinnati in 1997.
It's a sad day any time you lose an original member of the family, Robinson said. John was hand-picked by the organization, out of about a hundred tapes and resumes, to broadcast the games. He'll be missed by the team and the fans.
The Reds job isn't full time, and Walton said he's on schedule to earn his real estate li cense in a few months.
I appreciate the chance Pete has given me over the last three years, Walton said. The Ducks and the AHL are top-notch outfits, which makes it difficult to leave.
Robinson said he doesn't know who will replace Walton. Greg Waddell and Dave Allen have shared color commentary duties this season.
