Erlanger expands building
Project plans for 25-30 years

ERLANGER A $4 million renovation that will increase the size of the Erlanger City Building by 50 percent should be finished by the end of June.
Our city has grown significantly, but we've continued to operate in a facility that was designed to handle an operation that was probably 30 years in the past, said Erlanger Administrator Bill Scheyer.
We've tried to design this project so it will support us for the next 25 to 30 years.
The renovation triples space for the Erlanger Police Department, which previous ly had cramped quarters in the city building basement, Mr. Scheyer said.
In December, police moved back into the renovated city building on Commonwealth Avenue, but city offices are still housed in a nearby office building.
Since the police moved into the old building in the mid-'70s, their department has tripled in size, but they stayed in the same space, Mr. Scheyer said.
The expanded city building also will include public restrooms and a larger council meeting room that can accommodate 120 people, or four times the present capacity.
Council chambers will be partitioned, so that other community meetings can be held there, Mr. Scheyer said. It also will include an improved audiovisual system, so that the city can make video conferencing available to community groups.
