        • Muppet extravaganza: Paul Hartis, a senior designer for the Muppet Workshop, will be at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, 3 p.m. todaydemonstrating crafts from the just-published Muppets Big Book of Crafts. Rookwood Pavilion, Norwood. 396-8960.

        • Irish dancing: The Cincinnati Irish Cultural Society will present its annual Irish Ceili with dancing for all (simple Celtic dances will be taught), performances by McGing Irish Dancers and music by Tessera, 8 p.m.-midnight today in the Music Hall Ballroom, 1243 Elm St., downtown. $15 benefits Irish dance competition in June. 683-9705.

STAYING IN
        • TV picks: Toss the popcorn in the microwave and kick off Oscar weekend with one of your favorite movies, everything from the broadcast premiere of Billy Bob Thornton's Sling Blade (8 p.m., Channels 9, 2) to David Niven's Around the World in 80 Days (7 p.m., American Movie Classics); Anthony Hopkins' The Silence of the Lambs (8 p.m. Showtime); Charlton Heston's Ben-Hur (8 p.m., Channel 16); and An American Tail (7 p.m., Cartoon Network) or the original One Hundred and One Dalmatians cartoon (7:30 p.m., Disney). For night owls there are If These Walls Could Talk 2 (11 p.m., HBO); The Rocky Horror Picture Show (11:30 p.m., WGN) and My Fair Lady (midnight, AMC).
