About the West End Center




        • Address: 727 Ezzard Charles Drive, West End.

        • Mission: Social service agencies in the center work together to meet the needs of low-income and socially disadvantaged residents of the West End and other urban neighborhoods.

        • Adult Literacy Program provides GED and ABLE (Adult Basic Literacy Education) services to functionally illiterate people who are incarcerated in the Hamilton County Justice Center, 241-8878.

        • Community Land Cooperative of Cincinnati uses no public money — only grants from private corporations — to create dozens of housing rental units and home-buying opportunities in the West End, 721-2522.

        • Genesis Men's Program, a self-help program, is designed to break cycles of poverty, unemployment and incarceration among African-Americans, 241-7204.

        • Notre Dame-AmeriCorps was founded in 1992 as one of seven national chapters and linked to a national volunteer initiative in 1995 to orga nize and train tutors, after-school supervisors, conflict resolution specialists and other community volunteers. Office in Baltimore, (410) 532-6864.

        • People Interested in People organizes van trips for family members and friends who don't have other means of transportation but want to visit inmates in Ohio prisons, 381-5882.

        • Power Inspires Progress, a work training organization, operates Venice Pizza in University Heights and West End Catering and created the now-independent Women on Track Inc. • West End Catering offers on-the-job training that qualifies participants for full-time employment, 381-5882.

        • West End Emergency Center provides emergency food, clothing and household items, 381-5882.

        • Women on Track Inc. offers employment opportunities to women and men who want to learn sewing skills, 333-0288. Started as program within Power Inspires Progress.
