TV picks: Barbara Walters' 19th annual Oscar night special profiles singer Ricky Martin, actor Mike Myers and Oscar-winner Michael Douglas and his fiancee, Catherine Zeta-Jones (7-8 p.m., Channels 9, 2). Billy Crystal opens the 72nd Annual Academy Awards at 8:30 p.m., after a half-hour of red-carpet interviews. Want more? TV Critic John Kiesewetter says WBQC-TV repeats the pilot of The Beat (10 p.m., Channel 25), the new UPN police drama from Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana.

Rock On: The Grateful Dead, or what's left of them, have formed Grateful Dead Books and issued Spirit Into Sound by drummer Mickey Hart, who also doubles as editor-in-chief. Grateful Dead books will be predominantly marketed through the band's Web site, www.dead.net, which receives a million hits a month. The imprint will issue a book called Art of the Dead next year, and Spirit Into Sound will be reissued with an accompanying CD next spring.
