Husband sentenced in murder try

Wife beaten, stabbed, left for dead

LEBANON — Before being sentenced to eight years in prison, Frank Moore of Deerfield Township on Monday quietly apologized for stabbing and beating his estranged wife and leaving her for dead last June.

“I'm real sorry that all this happened,” he told Warren County Common Pleas Judge Neal Bronson.

Mr. Moore, 39, pleaded no contest to attempted murder in February and was found guilty. He faced a 10-year prison term.

Judge Bronson said he took into account Mr. Moore's lack of a criminal record in determining the sentence, but discounted several letters he had received on Mr. Moore's behalf.

“In my view this was a case in which a human life was placed in jeopardy,” the judge said.

Chris Cornyn, Mr. Moore's attorney, said his client had a good work record, has no previous criminal history and has shown remorse for the attack.

Mr. Moore stabbed Tammy Moore, 35, in the throat, abdomen and back, before beating her with a rock at Little Miami State Park on June 29. The two had met there to talk over marital problems.

A motorist found Mrs. Moore stumbling out of the park on Old 3C Highway south of Socialville-Fosters Road around 10 p.m. She identified Mr. Moore as her attacker.

Maximum term sought
She did not speak at the sentencing.

Assistant Warren County Prosecutor Keith Anderson asked Judge Bronson to give Mr. Moore the maximum 10-year sentence. Mr. Moore attempted to kill his estranged wife by drowning and knifing her, and then tried to hide the evidence, Mr. Anderson said.

“I would have to say we're not disappointed with the (8-year) sentence,” Mr. Anderson said as Mr. Moore was handcuffed and led away from the courtroom by sheriff's deputies.
