Carlisle School Board member departing, but not going far

BY SUE KIESEWETTER
Enquirer Contributor

CARLISLE — Ron Diver will hardly be cutting his ties with the Carlisle Schools, even though he's stepping down after 28 years on the school board.

He will still announce Fri day night football games. And he has already been asked — and agreed — to serve on the district's Community Advisory Council. And, too, in his new role as secretary for the Southwest Region of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA), he will have regular contact with his former col leagues.

“It's not like I'm running away,” Mr. Diver said.

He also will serve as secretary of Carlisle's Lion's Club and plans to continue as chairman of the annual Carlisle Railroad Day.

The new part-time job is why he decided to resign from the school board three months into his eighth consecutive term on the board of education, service he continued even after his two sons had graduated.

His departure makes for the third person to leave the district of late.

Assistant Superintendent Mark Upton announced his retirement last week. It came a month after Chamberlain Middle School principal Stan Coppock announced his retirement. Both educators will leave at the end of July after 30 years in education.

The district has begun advertising Mr. Upton's and Mr. Coppock's positions. At 4:30 p.m. today, the board will meet in a closed door session to interview John Meehling, Chuck Parks and former board member Steve Simpkins to replace Mr. Diver on the school board.
