Porada leads Lakota East at the plate

The Cincinnati Enquirer

After watching Brian Porada give up five runs in the first three innings, Lakota East coach Ray Hamilton considered replacing the junior on the mound.

But Hamilton decided to keep Porada in the game, and the junior came through with a career day at the plate, hitting two home runs and driving in five runs, giving the Thunderhawks a 10-6 victory over Lakota West.

“I didn't expect a high-scoring game, because we've struggled offensively,” Hamilton said. “Brian didn't have his best stuff today but got it done with the bat.”

Chris Courter also contributed, collecting three hits, including two doubles, while driving in two runs.

        • Mason 9, Anderson 7 — A seven-run sixth inning, triggered by Todd Hoffert's and Paul Hammon's three-run homers, carried the Comets past the Redskins in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division.

        • LaSalle 5, Alter 1 — The Lancers offense finally came alive, erupting for 10 hits. Seniors Dannie Schulte and Doug Kruthaupt each collected two hits.

Senior Triffon Callos pitched four innings to pick up the victory.

        • Moeller 5, Purcell Marian 2 — Adam Visnic's two-RBI single in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie, enabling Moeller to down the Cavaliers.

Tyler Tabler's sixth-inning single drove in two insurance runs for Moeller. Pitcher Jason Ranz struck out seven and walked two in a complete game.

Softball
        • Mount Notre Dame 1, Ursuline 0 — Lindsay Jordan drove in the only run with a single in the first inning, and pitcher Shaney Vonderhaar did the rest, scattering six hits to claim the shutout.

        • St.Ursula 7, Mercy 0 — Lauren McDonald did it all for the Bulldogs, pitching a shutout and contributing two hits.

Freshmen Chrissy Mahon and Catee St.Clair and senior Christina Fischer drove in two runs apiece.
