Children report abduction attempt
Hamilton police look for suspect
BY JANICE MORSE
The Cincinnati Enquirer
HAMILTON Police here are warning parents and children about an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old boy.
The boy told police that he was walking home from school Wednesday when a man tried to lure him into a car. He urged him to climb into the back seat to look at a baby squirrel in a cage there, said Sgt. Thomas E. Kilgour, police spokesman.
The incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. at Ross and Lawson avenues.
The boy and two witnesses ran away. They did what they were supposed to, Sgt. Kilgour said.
My mom and my whole family always told me to run away from strangers and don't look back, said the boy.
The boy and his friends gave police a sketchy description: a chubby, balding white male driving an older model brown four-door vehicle.
The boy's mother said the situation troubles her. I'm glad he got home safe, she said, but now I don't feel right about him walking alone.
She said she walked with her son to and from Fillmore Elementary School on Thursday, and probably will continue to do so through the rest of the school year.
She said she hopes residents will be on the lookout for the vehicle to give police a better description, including a license plate number.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police division's juvenile section at 868-5811, ext. 2003.
