Lebanon names city planner to head department

LEBANON — A search that included finalists from Michigan and New Hampshire ended on the city's front step this week as city planner Marty Kohler was picked for the new job of planning director.
The city also has hired an electric department director, filling its last department-head vacancy. Lebanon still lacks a city auditor — a position that answers to City Council — but the deputy city auditor has assumed those duties.
The planning department had been run by Deputy Director Doug Johnson. He will keep that title, and Mr. Kohler's former position will not be filled.
“The consensus of the group was that he had a lot of the qualifications, a lot of the background,” City Manager James Patrick said of Mr. Kohler.
Mr. Kohler had been city planner since 1997, and also worked for Lebanon from 1983 to 1987.
“It's an exciting city to be working for,” he said. “We've got everything working for us, if we can get our visions aligned. ... I think we have a lot of potential.”
Mr. Kohler starts in his new role Tuesday.
