More summer camps for kids

Academic
        • Astronomy Camp, Cincinnati Observatory, Mount Lookout. Grades: 7-9. Four nights and one day of astronomy fun and activities. Learn about the solar system, the moon, constellations, star charts, as well as the stars and the sun. Aug. 7-11. Fee: $250. 321-5186.

        • College Conservatory of Music
Summer Camps, University of Cincinnati. Sponsor: CCM Preparatory Department. 556-2595.

        Sea Creatures Kindermusik Camp. Ages: 1-4. Parent and child together in class, musical games and songs, clam castanets. June 12-16 and Aug. 7-11. Fee: $100. Deadline: June 1.

        Near and Far Kindermusik Camp. Ages: 4-6. Two-hour daily program for one week. Music, games, crafts from cultures around the world. July 10-14. Fee: $200. Deadline: June 1.

        Mommy and Me Around the World. Ages: 4-7. Children in Kindermusik class with songs, movement and games. Mother and child in class with ballerina Jonnie Lynn Jacobs with stories from the ballet, and a special Creative Dance Class. Aug. 7-11. Fee: $250. Deadline: June 1.

        Dancing 8 Days a Week. Ages: 10-18. Dance classes, seminars lectures and rehearsals. Daily classes in ballet, pointe, modern and jazz techniques for elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Alexander technique and Pilates training, dance history, injury prevention and stage makeup. June 11-18. Fee: $350. Deadline: May 15. $50 discount to CCM students if enrolled and paid in full before May 1.

        High School Percussion Workshop. High school students. One-week intensive workshop featuring Latin, African and Middle Eastern drumming classes, percussion ensemble rehearsals, theory, drum set classes, private Lessons, master classes and recitals. June 12-16. Fee: $260. Deadline: May 15.

        High School Summer Drama Seminar. High school students. Two-week seminar with classes in acting, character study, stage make up, stage combat. Auditioning for college programs, scene study. July 10-21. Fee: $275. Deadline: May 15.

        High School Wind Summer Seminar. High school musicians. Master classes, private lessons, rehearsals, coaching, ensembles, challenging literature. July 17-22. Fee: $350. Deadline: May 15. Partial scholarships based on financial need and demonstrated musical ability.

        High School Music Theater Workshop. High school students. Focus on vocal, dramatic and movement development. Daily voice lessons, scene coaching, master classes, audition, movement and acting techniques explored. Friday performance. Placement audition. June 19-23. Fee: $300.

        Crash Theory Classes for College Auditions. For high school juniors and seniors preparing to audition for a college music program. An intensive three-hour class to cover the basic theory requirements for college entrance placement exams. June 17 or 24. Fee: $50.

        • Summer Shakespeare Camp, downtown. Grades: Completed 6-8. Sponsor: Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival. Week-long series of classes culminating with Shakespearean performance produced by campers. Campers will rotate through voice for the actor, character/movement (including stage combat), aspects of technical theatre and discovering Shakespeare's text. Fee: $100. Workshop sessions for adults and children may include: Chinese cooking, dance, language, music and art; Buddhism, Tai Chi, calligraphy and paper cutting. June 17. Deadline: May 15. A running/walking program for girls that combines uplifting warm-ups and workouts that revolve around healthy decision-making skills. Each session aims to develop the emotion, mental, social and physical parts of one's self with a fun workout interspersed with each lesson. Girls learn their strengths and weaknesses, how to set goals, how to get along with others and responsibility to their community. Horseback riding, 50-foot climbing wall and challenge course, canoeing, mountain biking, crafts, in-line skating, dance, drama, tennis, field sports, swimming. Special leadership development and adventure programs for teens. One- and two-week camps, June 18-Aug. 12. Fee: $310 per week.

        Summer Day Camps. Ages: 6-13. Swimming, outdoor activities, sports, crafts, games. Campers may choose to spend time at the branch participating in specialty camps, at Camp Campbell Gard in a traditional day camp or for children 10-13 in an adventure day camp. June 12-Aug. 18. Fee: $95 per week.

        YMCA Camp Campbell Gard Horse Camp. Campers are responsible for a horse, which includes feeding, grooming and riding. Lessons geared to riders' abilities, from novice to experienced. Horse campers spend mornings at the stables and afternoons with cabin groups experiencing swimming, ropes course and other activities. Miles of trails and end-of-session rodeo. June 18-Aug. 12. Fee: $390 per week.
