The Cincinnati Enquirer

GRAND RAIDS, Mich. The Grand Rapids Griffins rallied from a 3-0 deficit at the start of the second period, to pull out a 4-3 shootout win at Van Andel Arena Saturday night.

Derek King had a pair of goals for Grand Rapids in the comeback effort. Travis Richards shootout goal in the fifth round broke a 2-2 deadlock in the overtime frame to put the Griffins four points ahead of Orlando for first place in the IHL's Eastern Conference.

The Cyclones exploded for three goals in the last ten minutes of the first period, as center Todd Simon and rookie left wing Erik Cole each scored power play goals.

Mike Fountain ran his record to 6-1-0 against Cincinnati this season. The shootout defeat extended the Cyclones road unbeaten streak to nine games (7-0-2), tying the club record set from November 23, 1993-Jan. 13, 1994.

Cincinnati had its four-game road winning streak end.

The Cyclones have 90 points on the season, becoming the first IHL club in league history to record 90-plus points in seven consecutive seasons.
