Gun locks will be given away
A shipment of 5,000 gun locks is expected to arrive today at the Miami Township fire department, where they will be distributed to police and fire departments throughout Clermont County.
The locks are free to the public, maximum two per person. Additional locks are $2 apiece, the cost to the local departments. Locks typically cost about $10 in stores.
Miami Township firefighter Harry Scott coordinated the grant request, which was approved by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The foundation consists of gun manufacturers.
The locks prevent the gun from firing and are disconnected with a key. They will be available at every police and fire department in the county by early next week.
The goal is to try to prevent needless and preventable tragedies, Mr. Scott said Monday.
