It's happy birthday as Cincinnati wins big over San Diego

Tremaine Fowlkes had plenty to celebrate Tuesday night after Cincinnati defeated San Diego 110-81 in the Firstar Center.

The Stuff forward turned 24 years old and scored a team-high 18 points in becoming the third player in the IBL to score 1,000 points this season.

“Any time you get a victory and you can celebrate a birthday on the side and get a record, it's special,” Fowlkes said.

Fowlkes also grabbed 11 rebounds for his 25th double-double of the season.

“Tremaine Fowlkes has made a valid statement for being the most valuable player of the league,” Stuff coach Joby Wright said. “He scores points, grabs rebounds and plays tough defense.”

After a slow first quarter, the Stuff (38-17) coasted to victory.

San Diego (14-41) hit its first four field goal attempts en route to an 11-4 lead five minutes into the game. Cincinnati battled back to force a 20-20 tie by the end of the first period.

Chris Kingsbury jump-started the Stuff by hitting three straight 3-pointers to open the second quarter, and the Stuff built a 10-point lead by intermission.

“Three-pointers and dunks will get any team going,” Kingsbury said.

Led by record-tying six 3-pointers from Kingsbury, the Stuff set a team record with 16 3s on a record-tying 39 attempts.

Kingsbury, who scored in double figures for the just the third time this season, scored 18 points, one shy of his season high.

“The rest of the guys were all happy for (Kingsbury),” Wright said. “In the locker room after the game, they were going nuts giving him and (Fowlkes) their props.”

Eric Taylor recorded his fifth double-double of the year with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

SAMAKE OUT: Cincinnati center Soumaila Samake missed the game because of an injury he suffered to his right index finger during Sunday's game at Las Vegas. He probably also will miss Thursday's game at Baltimore.
