Two splashy Broadway musicals; a roster of contemporary, diverse plays and musicals; and an original work are planned for the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music in 2000-2001. This range of work creates an intriguing theater calendar for the main and studio stages.

Mainstage musicals My One and Only (Nov. 16-19) and Grand Hotel (Feb. 22-March 4) salute Hollywood's golden age. My One and Only spoofs the movies; Grand Hotel is a musical based on a film classic.
The drama season is about exploring the work of neglected playwrights in Cincinnati and about diverse voices department head Richard Hess says.
That includes the region's first full productions of work by Hispanic playwright Jose Rivera with his Obie Award-winning apocalyptic urban fantasy Marisol and Blues for an Alabama Sky by African-American Pearl Cleage.
Mainstage dramas are award winners 6 Degrees of Separation and Our Country's Good.
This is about a tree bearing fruit, Mr. Hess says, and about four years of recruiting and encouraging diversity. It started with our students, who want a program that reflects the world they live in.
The CCM opera season will be announced at a later date.
