LEBANON Mike Powell will move up the lane from the prosecutor's office late next week to take the bench at Warren County Juvenile-Probate Court.
Mr. Powell, first assistant county prosecutor, received the governor's appointment Thursday afternoon to replace Mark Clark, who retired in March.
Also under consideration had been George Parker from Mason, and Eric Peters, the chief juvenile court magistrate.
Mr. Powell, 46, of Turtlecreek Township, said he will be sworn in next Thursday afternoon in a ceremony in Warren County Common Pleas Court.
I'm absolutely thrilled. It's kind of a dream come true for me, he said after getting the news in a phone call from Gov. Bob Taft's office.
Mr. Powell said he plans to go on the attack against problems that juveniles face in Warren County especially drugs.
He said he intends to convene a summit of school, law-enforcement and substance-abuse professionals in an attempt to pool resources to keep youngsters from abusing drugs.
A spokesman for the governor could not be reached after business hours Thursday.
Mr. Powell, who has worked in the prosecutor's office for 21 years, has never made a bid for office himself, but he has run several judicial campaigns for others.
