Two former locals in NBC pilot
BY John Kiesewetter
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Former Tristate residents Vicki Lewis and DeAnn Heline are teaming up with Connie Stevens for a new NBC comedy pilot.
Ms. Lewis, the former NewsRadio star from Anderson Township, plays the middle daughter of Ms. Stevens in the untitled comedy.
A.J. Langer (My So-Called Life; It's Like, You Know) and Katherine LaNasa (Six Days, Seven Nights) also play Ms. Stevens' daughters.
Peter Bonerz, who has directed many sitcoms since his days as Dr. Jerry Robinson on The Bob Newhart Show, will play Ms. Stevens' husband.
Ms. Heline, a Lakota High School graduate, has written and produced Murphy Brown and Ellen with her writing partner, Eileen Heisler. They are executive producers of the NBC pilot.
Channel 9 news: WCPO-TV finally enters the weekend morning news wars with one-hour newscasts at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Hagit Limor will anchor a more casual newscast with meteorologist Jessica Jamison. Translation: Only part of the hour will be from the Channel 9 anchor desk.
Channel 12 airs local news 6-8 a.m. Saturday. Channel 5 does the same 7-8 a.m. Saturday.
Wrong listing: No, Channel 9 is not broadcasting a 1936 version of The Golem on Saturday, as listed in the Enquirer's TV Week magazine. Channel 9 will be premiering Scott Wegener's local TV movie, The Golem, shot in 1997 with 147 Tristate residents (8-10 p.m., Channel 9).
Another local film, Brotherly Love, follows at 10 p.m. Kevin Jackson (Rosewood, Conspiracy Theory, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper) stars in the autobiographical story by Will Sims of Indianapolis, winner of the fourth annual Dreambuilder Celebration Scribe Award to encourage African-American writers. It premiered Jan. 19 on Channel 9.
DiCaprio delay: After all the fuss about Leonardo DiCaprio's interview with President Clinton, now comes the kicker: Channel 9 will pre-empt the 8 p.m. Saturdayspecial.
The decision to air two local shows, The Golem and Brotherly Love, will push ABC's Earth Day 2000 special back to 12:05 a.m. late Saturday/early Sunday, after 180 Videos (11:35 p.m. Saturday).
Dayton's Channel 2 will air the show, hosted by Elizabeth Vargas, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Channel 9 will not tape-delay ABC's Saturday movie, Star Trek: First Contact (9 p.m., Channel 2).
Q102 news: Versatile Brian Douglas has returned to the WKRQ-FM (101.9) morning show, in a move that operations manager Chuck Finney says could be permanent.
The afternoon DJ has been drafted for morning duty at least a half dozen times. He's been the go-to guy when Jim Fox, Chris O'Brien, John JB Brown, Linda Welby, Johnjay van Es and Shark & Shelli left the station.
Production director Vince Daniels had been hosting mornings since Q102 fired Doctor Bruce Maimes in March after six months.
B105 swap: Sisters country stations WUBE-FM (105.1) and WYGY-FM (96.5), soon to be sold to different owners, have swapped DJs. J.J. Gerard, (Y96.5) music director, has left his 2-7 p.m. shift to host 7 p.m.-midnight on the more popular B105.
He replaced Audra Evans, who moved to 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Y96.5.
Dawn Michaels, formerly midday host on Y96.5, has taken the place of Mr. Gerard as 2-6 p.m. DJ and station music director.
Easter vigil: ABC celebrates Easter with a clay animation version of the story of Jesus called The Miracle Maker (7-9 p.m., Channels 9, 2 Sunday). Actor Ralph Fiennes provides the voice of Jesus. No, Pontius Pilate won't be played by Mr. Sluggo from the Mr. Bill cartoons.
Easter shows: The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town air at 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday on the Fox Family Channel. The holiday lineup also includes: Here Comes Peter Cottontail (3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday); The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny (2 p.m. Sunday); The First Easter Rabbit (2:30 p.m. Sunday) and a repeat of The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town (4 p.m. Sunday).
Another couple: Grover Collins and Holly Morgan became the Tristate's second husband-wife morning team on Monday, but they're the third such team on the air overall. Daryl and Julie Pierce co-host On the Way 2-6 p.m. weekdays on WAKW-FM (93.3), says the station.
Chris O'Brien and Janeen Coyle have anchored mornings on oldies WGRR-FM (103.5) since 1995.
