Woman is link in kidnap of man

BY
The Cincinnati Enquirer

FLORENCE — The man kidnapped from the Holiday Inn here earlier this week had been dating the ex-girlfriend of his alleged kidnapper for about a month, Florence Police Sgt. Bruce Graham said Thursday.

He thinks that link is probably why Greg Marcinski, 23, of Red Bank, N.J., went to the hotel Sunday night, posed as an FBI agent to hotel employees, led Paul Jeffrey Gale, 28, of Mount Laurel, N.J., outside and then handcuffed him and drove away with him in a white 1989 Buick Century.

The FBI arrested Mr. Marcinski on Wednesday in his hometown. Authorities still are looking for Mr. Gale, a computer consultant who had planned to stay in Northern Kentucky through Thursday to do work for a pharmaceutical company.

“We wouldn't even begin to know where to look,” Sgt. Graham said. “Every hour that goes by ... the worse it looks for him to turn up alive. I just think time is against us. But who knows? He could be tied up somewhere. We're just kind of sitting in limbo.”

Mr. Gale also has a residential address in Naples, Fla. His girlfriend was in New Jersey, her home state, at the time of his kidnapping. The FBI is questioning her, but she is not suspected of being involved in the crime, Sgt. Graham said.

U.S. marshalls are expected to return Mr. Marcinski to Northern Kentucky within the next few weeks. He could face both federal and state charges for the alleged kidnapping and posing as an FBI agent.

The FBI is asking anyone with information that might lead to finding Mr. Gale to call the Covington office of the FBI at (859) 341-3901 or Florence police at (859) 371-1234.
