Kroger Senior Classic to be on CNBC in 2001
The Cincinnati Enquirer
The PGA Tour announced a four-year agreement Tuesday with CNBC to televise 33 Senior PGA Tour events beginning in 2001, including the Kroger Senior Classic presented by Firstar.
The announcement was made by PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem and CNBC President Bill Bolster. Margie French, Kroger tournament director, said this is a step towards increasing viewership of the Senior Tour.
Our tournament in Cincinnati will now be seen in more than 150 millions homes worldwide and more than 72 million homes in the United States, French said.
All senior events will air either live or taped on Saturdays and Sundays at 6-8 p.m., a significant increase in coverage over this year's 24 Senior PGA Tour events carried by ESPN, including the Kroger Classic Sept. 15-17.
Bruce Fleisher, the current leading money winner on the Senior PGA Tour, heads the list of players who have committed to play in the Kroger.
Others expected to play include defending champion Gil Morgan, Jay Sigel, Simon Hobday and Miller Barber.
